Hello everybody,
After years of reading member posts to learn of other experiences, modifications and maintenance stories on the Xterra; I've decided to actually write for once. Free time is something I have plenty of these days having been laid off but please don't feel sorry for me because I sure don't. The up side of being laid off is being able to quickly start and complete home remodeling projects but most importantly, I finally have time to buy and install a few Nissan parts on an original. Here is the info on my old Xterra.
Purchased new off Rosenthal Nissan showroom floor almost 10 years ago….
2000 Xterra SE, 4x4, Auto, Aztec Red ($25,799), floor mats ($79), splash guards ($59), tow hitch-auto ($599) dealer markup ($X,XXX.xx) Grand total today? KBB private party is now $6,800? Retail isn’t better at $8,400. Just try to get them off the price on this Xterra back then, they would laugh. I had to put up or shut up.
I seriously don't think I will ever sell this Xterra. Here’s why. It has never disappointed me, as flawless as they can come. It has never once been in for repair service. To date, I have installed one set of front brake pads, done the regular fluids and filters chore, mounted one set of Goodyear tires even though the cracking original tires had almost half the tread left, replaced 3 bulbs, wiper blades twice, one windshield 8 years ago and only recently battery number 2. It has had zero recalls and nothing mechanical has been disassembled other than me removing the brake calipers/rotors. The paint can have people ask, “is that the original paint”. Body trim new looking (peanut cooking oil) Seats always covered since new. 4x4 system has never been used off-road but has been used a few times winter storm chasing several blizzards, that was fun, wheel wells packed with snow, ¼ inch suspension travel.
First and last modification done this past weekend. Warn hubs! Cleaned rotors, cleaned abs sensor/ring, Mobil 1 in bearings axle. WOW!!! 2500rpm was 60mph, 2500rpm is now 67mph; like I wouldn’t notice this. And no, the old hubs did not click, grind, stick or break.
Nismo stainless steel catback system ordered to replace stock exhaust… sorry, forgot I was talking to Xterra owners, I mean that rusty annoying contraption Nissan stuck under my truck with parts that rust and fall off. I wouldn’t call this a modification either, have you ever looked under one of these trucks, that’s not an exhaust down there no matter what they say. I’m going to remove that big can looking thing back near the axle with a leaf blower.
Timing Kit and bits have to go on soon. The engine has never been cracked opened or cleaned, dirty job. The engine compartment body work is clean and every single electrical system connector is packed with di-electric grease for waterproofing; only the engine is dirty.
This Xterra runs silky smooth, has never hesitated or stalled, never overheated, never leaked any fluids, never had a sensor or other electrical problem, never had a sunroof leak and never exhibited any negative gas mileage changes. Bottom line is, I’m so happy with this Xterra, you couldn’t take it off my hands even if you offered me the latest and greatest Xterra in trade. Stick that in your KBB numbers…
I hope every other owner is as satisfied with their Xterra as I am with mine. Thanks for reading, now who want to buy it?
